-Works in Progress-
Composting: There are two main benefits to composting. The first is that it prevents food waste from going to landfills where they are not treated properly and produce methane. The second is that it helps give food a second purpose in supporting gardens. For these reasons, we decided to start a compost system at our school. We have three small bins placed around the school to collect green (nitrogen rich) material for our compost bins. All food waste is considered green material, but for a successful compost bin we need a combination of both green and brown material. That is why we are currently looking to get a brown material container to keep near our catch all bins so that we can maintain this balance. We also hope to get more bins for our school so that is convenient for students to use.
World of 7 Billion Video Contest: There is a short film competition to create a video about the environment and specifically population growth. The deadline is February 23, so we have some time to work on it. We have decided to focus on Ocean health, specifically how pollution effects aquatic habitats. We will start writing our script next week and plan a time to start filming. The flyer for the competition is attached below. If you have any suggestions you can come to our club meeting or contact us by email :)
